Preparing for the Show

Posted in Drumming by gpdrums on October 21, 2006

Today is the day before the outdoor worship concert and I am doing the best I can to refrain from using my hands. I have been practicing so much lately that the joints need a break. On a spiritual level I am doing fine. God knows I am a little anxious, not nervous, but anxious. I want to play well tomorrow. I am used to playing in front of thousands of people weekly, but we will be in a public venue tomorrow and I know for sure that a lot of friends are going to be there that would not normally attend a worship concert. My goal is simple: Play for an audience of One.

I have a long day tomorrow with soundcheck at 6:30 a.m., three services at 8, 10, and 12, soundcheck at 4:00 p.m., and the worship set at about 7:30 p.m. I am not expecting much free time between third service and soundcheck since we have to load out the gear and set up at the venue. We expect plenty of helpers, thank the Lord.

All I have left to do today is swing by my buddy’s house and pick up my cymbals. I am going to use my 13″ K/Z hats and 20″ Platinum ride for the show. They do not make cymbals like those anymore. Anyway, the K/Z’s cut through the mix with a sweet high tone and the Platinum just sings like there is no tomorrow.

Well, I’m off.
